Our model typically suits small and marginal farmers, reducing their risk from farming while ensuring their income, food and nutritional security. We focus on low cost, low risk but high impact model.
We promote clonal technology in the plantation. The advantages of clonal rootstocks, compared to seedling rootstocks are four fold viz., a shorter time period; robust growth because of availability of more sunlight, rainwater and air to trees; higher wood density and thus higher yield per acre; and faster and less expensive inter-cultural operations.
SAI’s agro-forestry model with plantation in paired row and intercropping of traditional food crops ensures food, nutrition and income security. As our farmers belong to BoP with no access to irrigation facility, we encourage improved varieities of traditional crops like millets and pulses which require less water and give better yield with little care and management.
